I love how Ray describes himself as rich on page 30. You quoted a Gable Price & Friends song Mountains and Mundane in your first substack post for this book. I think Ray is experiencing the mundane with the mountains distantly in view all while the light of Christ is shining down upon him. What great encouragement this is to enjoy every little thing because every good and perfect gift is from above (James 1:17).
I really liked the comparison of Ephians 11:9 and Psalm 39:13 Ray made in the chapter (pg 29) and how he encourages the reader to even when life gets that God will lead us to the small enjoyments that we can rejoice in. As I continue reading, I am seeing the theam of rejoicing in life in other occasions. One of these occasions was after I had read this portion of the chapter, I was watching the Chosen and Jesus's disciples James and John were sitting at a table after Jesus raised Lazurus from the dead. At this point in the chosen the disciples and Jesus were staring to experience some persecution and had gone thru many losses, but had also seen so many miracles and Jesus just raised Lazurus from the dead, but they knew more persecution was coming. In the middle of all of the. James and John we eating some Cinnamon cakes that Martha made. It just showed me an example of what rejoicing in life can look like.
Rejoicing in God's good gifts in the midst of trial and persecution sometimes looks like enjoying cinnamon cake with friends! Life becomes more sweet when we recieve these gifts for what they are despite life still being hard.
